How do you stay motivated?

Something I hear a lot from my clients: “I just can’t stay motivated.”

Let’s talk about that.

Especially at the beginning of the year, we start something with the best of intentions. We set a resolution or a goal. We are riding the wave of new year motivation to change, of the idea of a fresh start.

And we may be very justified in wanting to change. Maybe we don’t need that new year inspiration at all, because we’re feel pretty miserable and frustrated about where we’re at.

Maybe we wake up each morning, look at ourselves in the mirror and go Ugh. Or – how did I get here? How did I let myself get this way?

Maybe when we get dressed for the day, we go into the closet and wade through the 3 or more sizes of clothes we’re still keeping because “I’m gonna fit into those again some day”. We wade through, trying to find something that feels good when we put it on. Something we can actually button or zip. We pull something out – “Hmm, maybe this will fit me now. Nope, it doesn’t. Sigh. I guess I have to pick out something from this end of the closet.”

In other words, we start our day already feeling defeated, drained, and maybe a little hopeless. No energy.

No wonder you can’t stay motivated!

If your motivation to change comes from wanting to move away from how you’re feeling, well, that’s not enough.

Because here’s the thing. Even though you may be feeling miserable, or unhappy, or frustrated, or whatever it is, there’s a part of you that knows – you can live with this – because you have! There’s a part of you that knows where you are at now – it’s survivable. And that same part – it doesn’t know anything about where you want to go. It just doesn’t understand. All it knows is – change is scary – we’re ok where we’re at – so let’s stay here.

And so begins the sabotage. Combined with those wonderful feelings you cultivate when you get up in the morning. Well, you’re fighting an uphill battle.

Well, I want to share with you some tips for turning that around. But it will take more than one live video to do that.

For today… what I want to strongly suggest is that if you are one of those people who keeps multiple sizes of clothes in your closet – get rid of the ones that don’t fit! Get rid of the ones that don’t make you feel good when you put them on. Donate them so that they can make someone else happy, because they’re only making you miserable.

Give yourself the gift of being able to shop for new fun clothes that make you feel empowered, when you need to.

Allow the past to be in the past. Don’t give away your power to old clothes, or a certain clothing size.

Clear out the clutter to make way for a newer, more positive you, and see how that has an effect on how you start your day.
